Last weekend we kicked off Richard’s birthday celebrations by taking a drive up Mt Nelson to gawk at the view and test out the cafe. And boy were we glad we made the effort!
All the tables in the cafe are situated so you have atleast 180 degrees worth of views to feast on. And what a view it is! The water stretches for miles around Hobart and from your seat you can see all the way across the water to Bruny Island and on a clear day, Port Arthur.
The food is also impeccable. I had a steak sandwich which still makes my eyes water to think about, and the birthday boy treated himself to shredded duck with mushrooms and parmesan. Topped off with a lovely Tasmanian Pinot Noir.
I think the thing that sticks with you though is the atmosphere. It’s peaceful and calm on the top of Mt Nelson. It was inspiring and exciting to be there. Richard thinks it’d be great for some sort of medium-sized function as well…..
We’ve already booked tables for Aunty Viv and Mum. They’ve booked March and April in our spare room. There’s still 10 other months up for grabs though if the thought of red wine on a sunny evening on top of a hill takes your fancy…
